"Coimbatore today is seeing an increasing number of male infertility cases with a majority of them falling in the age group of 29 to 35 . Apart from genetic reasons, infection, testicular or pelvic injury, lifestyle factors such as age, nutrition. lack of regular exercise, work stress, exposure to environmental pollutants play a vital role in the development of infertility in men. Habits like smoking, illicit drug and alcohol abuse and poorly controlled diabetes can negatively influence fertility in men" said Dr. Meenakshi, Fertility Consultant at Nova IVI Fertility at a press meet organised here.

The infertility specialist also shares some alarming facts stating "40-45% of all infertility cases in Coimbatore are due to male factors Moreover several cases of male infertility go unnoticed and untreated as men are reluctant to seek professional help and accept that they could be the cause for failure to conceive".
Dr.Meenakshi further apprised that at her clinic, 32% of infertile men were overweight and another 35% were smokers. "These statistics clearly affirm that other than genetic factors, poor lifestyle and bad -habits could largely be attributed to infertility in men", she added.
